Beyond South Bali: quieter east, coast & highlands.

10 days Self-guided Sidemen · Amed · Munduk

If you’re tired of crowded beaches and the same over-touristy spots that feel more like a theme park than a destination, this itinerary is for you. It follows Bali that still moves at a slower pace — culture, landscapes, and locals without the noise.

Three special places: Sidemen’s rice-terrace valleys, Amed’s black-sand coast, and Munduk’s cool mountain highlands. Boutique stays, scenic transfers, and flexible days — not beach clubs.

A sample of Day 2

Slowing down on the quiet side of Bali — rice fields, mountain views, and a gentler pace than the south.

Day 2 · Sidemen · rice terraces & local culture

Terrace walk · warung lunch · weaving or waterfall · valley dinner

Morning

Rice terrace walk

After breakfast, explore the Sidemen rice fields. Cindy’s pick is a guided walk of 2–3 hours booked through your hotel — richer when someone explains farming, village life, and the valley’s history. Independent public trails exist if you prefer to wander alone; check access locally.

Wear trainers — paths can be uneven and muddy

Lunch

Warung Tirta Unda

Stop for lunch with a view over the rice fields.

Afternoon

Choose one: weaving or waterfall

Culture: a traditional weaving workshop — watch Balinese textiles made by hand; some offer demos and direct purchases. Scenery: Gembleng Waterfall, jungle pools and valley views (not walkable from central Sidemen; arrange return transport, allow 2–3 hours).

Then return to your hotel and rest over the valley

Dinner

Warung Wisma Bojana

Authentic Balinese food from a local family, with views across the terraces. Sidemen is one of those places where doing less is part of the experience.

Day 1 is airport → Sidemen. Later days cover east-coast Amed (snorkelling, villages) and Munduk’s highlands before the drive home.
