Taipei: temples, tea & towering skylines.

5 days Self-guided Old Taipei · Maokong · Jiufen · Tamsui

Taipei completely surprised Cindy. As a first solo trip in fifteen years, she expected a hard city. Instead: a clean MRT, friendly help when needed, and the confidence to walk at night.

This itinerary isn’t a race through attractions. It’s how she loves to travel: hidden corners beside the must-sees, markets, coffee, photographs of ordinary streets, and enough pace to feel the place.

A sample of Day 1

Times, skips, and the tip she’d give a friend. From the draft guide.

Day 1 · Old Taipei · the heart of the city

Longshan · Bopiliao · Chiang Kai-shek Memorial · Dihua Street · Ximending

Morning

Longshan Temple

One of the city’s oldest Buddhist temples. Early risers: arrive 30–45 minutes before the 6:00 or 8:00 morning chanting for a quieter atmosphere and better light.

Allow 45–60 min · Blue Line, Longshan Temple

Next

Bopiliao Historic Block

A few minutes away: restored Qing Dynasty street, red brick, quiet alleyways. Far less crowded than the headline sights. Architecture is the point.

Allow 30–45 min

Midday

Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall

Many come for the changing of the guard. Cindy’s favourite frame: Liberty Square Arch, looking back through the gardens, not only the memorial head-on.

Allow 45–60 min · Green & Red Lines

Afternoon

Dihua Street

Heritage trading street: tea merchants, medicine shops, cafés. One of her favourite areas for lunch and unhurried wandering.

Allow 1.5–2 hours · Blue Line, Taipei Main Station

Evening

Ximending

Neon, side streets, street food, night photography. Stay as long as the energy holds.

Blue & Green Lines, Ximen

Days 2–5 cover modern Taipei, Maokong tea country, the Jiufen day trip, and Tamsui before a flight.
